British luxury carmaker JLR has stated that ‘data’ has been accessed in the cyber attack that impacted the company’s operations.
Tata Motors-owned JLR was hit by a cyber attack on August 30 and the luxury car maker had to shut down its system to contain and mitigate the impact.
“Since we became aware of the cyber incident, we have been working around the clock, alongside third‑party cybersecurity specialists, to restart our global applications in a controlled and safe manner. As a result of our ongoing investigation, we now believe that some data has been affected and we are informing the relevant regulators,” JLR stated in a statement.
Employees at the company’s Halewood plant were instructed not to report to work after the cyberattack occurred. The company’s SAP ERP, SCADA controllers, Robotics PLCs, CRM tools, email gateways, network file shares and dealer portals have been affected at multiple plants worldwide.
The company is starting operations across its systems slowly, primarily starting with offline operations. The IT systems are underway..
“Our forensic investigation continues at pace and we will contact anyone as appropriate if we find that their data has been impacted. We are very sorry for the continued disruption this incident is causing and we will continue to update as the investigation progresses,” added JLR.
Industry experts have warned that the cyber attack could impact the company’s electric vehicle production. JLR is scheduled to start deliveries of the Range Rover Electric in late 2025, with production starting from August.
