Nifty 50 is managing to hold higher. A strong follow-through rise was not seen on Wednesday after the wide gap-up open. But at the same time, the index has not come down also significantly. It indicates that the bias is positive but with less conviction.

Nifty is currently trading almost flat at 24,980. The advances/declines ratio is at 26:24. This is slightly mixed and can go either way. So we may have to wait and watch.

Nifty 50 outlook

Nifty has cluster of supports in the 24,910-24,870 region. So, the downside can be limited. The bias is positive. We expect the Nifty to reverse higher anywhere from this 24,910-24,870 region and go back into the 25,000-25,050 resistance zone. An eventual break above 25,050 will then clear the way for a fresh rise to 25,150 and 25,250.

This bullish view will go wrong if the Nifty declines below 24,870. In that case, a fall to 24,800 and even lower levels can be seen.

Nifty 50 Futures

The Nifty 50 September Futures (25,065) is trading flat. The resistance in the 25,100-25,120 region is holding well for now. That keeps alive the chances of an intermediate dip to 25,000-24,970. But after this fall, the contract can reverse higher and go back up to the 25,100-25,120 resistance region. An eventual break above 25,120 can then take the Nifty 50 September Futures contract up to 25,200 and even 25,300 in the coming days.

The contract will come under pressure for more fall only if it breaks below 24,970. Such a break can drag it down to 24,870-24,850. But such a fall is less likely as we expect the contract to sustain above its support at 24,970 and reverse higher.

Trade Strategy

Hold on to the long positions recommended yesterday at 25,070. Accumulate on dips at 25,010. Follow the same strategy. Keep the stop-loss at 24,920. Trail the stop-loss up to 25,100 as soon as the contract goes up to 25,160. Revise the stop-loss higher to 25,180 and 25,220 when the contract touches 25,210 and 25,250 Exit the longs at 25,280.
